Frequently asked questions about truffles and ordering
Published on 5 October 2026
What does "aroma naturale di tartufo" on a label guarantee?
This phrase means that at least 95% of the aroma component comes from truffle itself. "Aroma naturale" without "di tartufo" only guarantees a natural origin, not that it comes from truffle, and "aroma" by itself guarantees nothing. For each product, we state which of these descriptions is on the label. The full ladder is explained in the aroma ladder on a truffle label.
Why is there no harvest year on the jar?
The season of each truffle species is set by law, and the harvest month follows from it: a summer truffle comes from the summer, a winter truffle from the winter. The year is a separate detail that hardly any label in the trade states. We therefore state the harvest month for every product. See the seasons per species in the harvest calendar.
What is the difference between summer truffle and winter truffle?
Both are related, but they have a different season, a different skin, and a clearly different price point: the black winter truffle (Tuber melanosporum) is harvested between mid-November and mid-March, the summer truffle (Tuber aestivum) between May and November. A label often just says "black truffle," while that covers two species with a large price difference. You can read about the full distinction under black winter truffle or summer truffle.
How do I store an opened jar of truffle?
As soon as you open the jar, it belongs in the refrigerator and you should use the truffle within a few days. Leave the truffle in its own liquid until you need it: that liquid is truffle juice and can be added to the pan. All steps, including soaking dried mushrooms, are in storing and using truffles and dried mushrooms.
When is shipping free?
Shipping is free on orders of €75 or more. The cart always shows how much you still need to get there.
Can I return an order?
Yes, you have a fourteen-day cooling-off period and do not need to provide a reason. You can return unopened products in their original packaging; a jar or bag whose seal has been broken cannot be returned by law. How to tell us about a return is explained under right of withdrawal and returns.
